Thursday February 21, 2013: Winterblues

It’s official: I’m definitely suffering from the Winterblues.  For the first time ever I really hate Winter and I can’t wait till it’s Spring again.

I don’t want to run, I don’t want to exercise, I don’t want to clean my house, I don’t even want to walk with Bella. I’m doing most things though or do them half (housekeeping), but don’t enjoy it. All I want to do is sit and wait till this Winter is over.

At least it is dry at the moment although it’s pretty cold because there’s often a very cold Eastern wind. But they predict more snow for this weekend. Something positive is that I leave home for work in daylight and come home in daylight. That makes a huge difference already.

But nevertheless I can’t wait till Spring is here. Next week March starts and that’s physiological already the feeling that Spring starts. I have some fun events planned next month to look forward too. Also after this weekend temperatures will get higher.

Remind me again that I hate Winters like we are having the past couple of years when I start complaining about the heat in Summer. I never thought I would say this but right now I choose a hot, humid day over a Winter day.

Monday afternoon the heating and air refreshing system at work broke down and it got a bit colder at the office every day. It will be fixed tomorrow. On top of that we lost power this morning around 11 and we couldn’t work anymore. Nothing worked. Around 1 in the afternoon the managing director decided to sent everybody home and close the building. That was an extra afternoon off. I already had taken a vacation day for tomorrow so my weekend started early.

Tuesday I got home and thought there was something different in the garden. At first I couldn’t see what it was but then I noticed. The city had cut down 2 trees that were on their side and now we have more light in the garden. I have called a few times when they would trim down the trees but they never came, until now.

Before

After, the tree on the left is completely gone.

  1. I’ve been going through the winter blues too (combined with a general sort of depression since last fall makes it even worse)- it’s been so cold and snowing on and off all day and I am just fed up with it! So, I empathize with how you feel – it’s so hard to be motivated to do anything. We need some warmth and sunshine!
At least you will have a lot more light in your garden once we do finally get some sun. It looks a lot more open with those trees cut down.

  2. Have you thought about getting a light therapy box to help with the SAD? Winter really can be depressing with the lack of light. At least you have clear ground, though! We still have snow – and more to come this weekend.

  3. I can’t imagine living through a real winter – it has to be tough. I hope you have an early Spring. At least with the trees removed you have more light, and like you said, it’s light when you leave and come home from work now. Small things, I know…but sometimes you have to hang onto stuff like that.

Glad you got to leave work – what a huge pain to lose power like that! I bet Bella was happy to get extra time with her mom. :)

I’m really excited for your March event – well, the one I know about – :) :) :)

  4. I definitely suffer from winter blues. I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. I need the sunlight! Plus, I really hate working out in the cold. Even if I do like racing in the colder weather, I do not like to train in it!

  5. Well you know we are Winter-hating twins! I couldn’t have described it better myself: just leave me along and let me sit and wait until spring comes. You know, even if my tulips or daffodils were starting to bud, I wouldn’t know because there is a huge pile of snow on top!

How nice to get bonus time off! I hope you use it to do something fun.

  6. I like winter but my husband would totally agree with you. It’s been very beautiful here with the snow clinging to the trees. It isn’t too cold (IMO) and that helps.

  7. I am with you on winter! My daughters birthday is March 7, and when she was little sometimes I’d be shoveling show to let the kids on the house, or other times we’d have water balloon fights because it was so warm out – you just never know!

Luckily we did’t get too much snow last night – Happy Friday!
