Daily stuff:
Thank you for the nice comments about the village where I live. If you ever visitHolland, you’re more than welcome to come and see for yourself.

Shelley asked some questions about the traditional costume women wear in the youtube video I posted. There are only about 270 women in the village that wear this every day. The youngest women in this costume is born in 1950. The costume is special by the use of the “kraplap”. You can see someone in the traditional costume every day in the village but it’s a dying tradition. The younger people don’t wear it except for special occasions. It is expected that you won’t see it every day anymore in 10 years.

Weekend plans: tomorrow night we’re going to a concert by The Golden Earring. The best Dutch rock band that we have but we haven’t seen them play live yet. You may know them because their song Radar Love was a huge hit in theUSAin 1973. When I looked it up I saw that Bill Clinton used the song back in 1992 when he was running for president.

But .. that is if the roads are good to drive. The weather forecast gives very bad weather for tonight and tomorrow morning: lots of snow. Hopefully the roads are clear in the evening.

We are also going to buy a Christmas tree. We have a fake one in the addict but it’s so much work to put it up that we tried a real one last year and we liked that. My company sells Christmas trees and I get a discount on it which makes the tree not too expensive. Do you have a Christmas tree yet?

I have decided to start over with the 5K training because I missed a couple of runs. The program is only 6 weeks and the “long” runs are adding up fast. It seems like it’s easy but it’s not because I’m working on my speed. I want to be faster compared to the running version 1.0 of me. That means that the running parts are fast (at least fast for me). But it went well.

Run-walk ratio: 6 x 2 minutes, 1 minute walking inbetween (12 minutes running, 6 minutes walking)
Weather: dry, not much wind,0C(32 degrees)
Distance: 2.5 K / 1.5 miles
Time: 00:17:52
Last song on Ipod before finish: Glee Cast – Stronger.

This morning I did a Firm Express workout: cardio and sculpt.
Total time: 20 minutes.

Yesterday’s outfit

Wednesday dinner

Turkish pizza: meat with onion, tomatoes, garlic and spices on a wrap heated in the oven with some garlic sauce.

  1. Absolutely love that outfit! Interesting about the women in your village who wear the traditional outfits. Kind of sad that it is going away–we are such a homogenized world sometimes.

  2. Thanks for answering my questions – I’ve never seen outfits like what those women are wearing and I find stuff like that fascinating.

I have Radar Love on my running playlist (not that I run to music very often anymore) – it makes me want to run fast. I remember driving when it came on the radio and I ended up doing about 80 before I realized it…just a speedy song! Hope you get to go to the concert. :)

  3. We got out tree the last weekend of Nov. It is always a tradition for us to put up the Christmas decorations after Thanksgiving!! Hope you can make it to the concert!!! Your dinner looks yummy!

  4. Radar love! I love that song. One hit wonder band in the US.

Well, you have seen our tree. It’s up already. I really would love a real tree, if only John weren’t allergic.

Hope your weather isn’t too bad. Drive safe!

  5. No Christmas tree here yet. No Christmas decorations up at all. I am feeling like a real slacker. No card made. I need to get busy! Work has been so overwhelming I haven’t gotten past that but I need to. We are going to a Christmas party tomorrow night.

We went to the movies and saw Argo. Is that near you? A fantastic movie.

  6. I have to get a tree too – I was thinking of going to Gamma, but I usually end up in a local “tuincentrum”. The thing that puts me off going to the Gamma is that it’s so busy – especially the parking lot! Too much stress for me…

So did you get hit with the snow? It started early this morning here but now it seems like it is slowing down. Very windy, though. Fingers crossed you can make it to the concert!

  7. Radar Love! That’s a blast from the past!

We are going to get our tree tomorrow. It’s the first and only opportunity we have to do it and the weather forecast is for rain. Not much fun marching around a muddy farm looking for a tree but it’s got to be done.

I saw the snow this morning on FB. Hope the roads get cleared for you.

  8. I am putting up my tree and decorations on Monday night while my husband watches football – we got a prelit tree a dozen years ago and haven’t looked back. I do buy a fresh Christmas wreath so I get the “pine” smell, which is just fine.

Hope you don’t get snowed in!

  9. These Dutch costumes are really nice and it is a real pity that old village are losing gradually their traditions. When I visited Bavaria I was delighted to see local people who wore the “dirndl”, their traditional costume.

The Christmas tree with its decorations is still ready!
    Have a nice weekend!

  10. Ohh have fun setting up for Christmas!!! I did a little bit of Christmas decorating just enough to get in the spirit. Sadly J. will be gone before we can actually celebrate it together, so I didn’t go all out this year.

  11. I hope you were able to go to your concert and had a good time.
Are you going to share a photo of your Christmas tree? I have a fake tree that I already put up and decorated. I’m allergic to real pine trees so I can’t have them in the house. My husband doesn’t like real trees so it works for us. :)
