Monday December 23, 2013: Goals 2014

Posted on

Since I don’t have that much to say except that we had a great night with our friends last Saturday, that all my Christmas shopping is done, that we are not going to have a white Christmas, that I’m enjoying my days off, I think it’s a good idea to reveal my goals for 2014.

Goals 2014:

Walking

I want to do 1 long walk of 1 hour or more every week with Bella and I want to walk with her as many days as possible.

The walking events for 2014 are online and there are so many organized walks, I can do one almost every weekend. I also want to do a part of one of the long distance walks across the country at least once a month. If there’s no walk or I don’t have time to do a part of the other walks, I will take a long walk around my village.

We are doing great this year and a 1000K was close. That will be our goal for 2014: walk 1000K (625 miles).

Running

In 2014 my focus will be on running 5K and 10K. During Winter I’ll run max. 5K, in the Summer months I will train for 10K. I’m not sure yet if I will do races, I do have written down the races in 2014 that are close to home and will decide only short before the date if I will do a race.

Goals is to run more than in 2013 which is my worst year in running since I started, run a 10K without stopping and most important: just enjoy running.

Cooking

As you know I have a lot of cook books, it’s my addiction to collect them. But I don’t use them enough. I have counted how much books I have and that’s 108! Of those 16 books are diet books or for special occasions (like Christmas). That leaves 92 cook books.

My goal for 2014 is to use those 92 cook books at least one time in 2014. That means I have to use at least 2 cook books a week.

And these are my goals for next year. I actually see them as fun goals. I love walking and cooking. I used to love running and think that this goal will help me give my love for running back.

As you can see there’s nothing about weight loss next year. I still have and want to lose weight but my main priority is to be healthy again. I will focus on eating healthy as much as possible, walking, running and exercise and will see what that does for my weight. There will be no diets and no talking about my weight. There’s one exception and that’s when I do reach my goal weight, then I’ll shout it out loud.

My blog will be about my walks with Bella, running, cooking and other things that happen in my life. As you can see I even changed the name of my blog.

I wish you, my dear blogger friends, a wonderful happy Christmas, surrounded by your loved ones. I’ll be back on Friday.

Photo a day challenge:

December 18: Big
From my archives, the most beautiful church in the world for me. The black and white cathedral in Sienna, Italy.

December 19: ‘Tis the season to …
Eat “Boerenkoolstamppot met worst en spekjes” (kale with mashed potatoes, sausage and bacon), a Dutch Winter dish.

December 20: I’m listening to ..
Birds singing on a beautiful, silent Winter morning during my walk with Bella.

December 21: On the door
Not exactly on my door but right next to the door.

December 22: Sparkly

December 23: Tradition
I struggled a bit with this theme but realized it’s a tradition I have a vacation around Christmas/New Year every year which means Bella and I can take our walks in daylight instead of walking in the dark on workdays during Winter.

Meals:

Saturday December 21

I used the Brussels sprouts and mushrooms and made a delicious frittata with it. Never thought of using Brussels sprouts for that but it was delicious.

Sunday December 22

I baked Christmas cookies in the afternoon.

Dinner was “cookies” made from potatoes and savoy cabbage with some goat cheese on top. I had a salad with chicory and apple as a side dish.

Tuesday December 10, 2013: Goals 2013, let’s get that out of the way

Posted on

Let’s talk about the goals I set for 2013, just to get that out of the way and be done with it. This is what I said at the beginning of this year:

It’s time to reveal my plans: a new year has started and this year is special to me. In May I’m hoping to reach the age of 45 and in March it’s 20 years ago R. and I met. Because it’s a special year to me, I started thinking about what I want to accomplish this year a couple of weeks ago. I thought and thought about it over and over again till I was convinced I can do this and I want to do this.

I have 2 big goals this year:
1. Reach my goal weight
2. Run a half marathon

Well I didn’t meet both of my goals. In fact I have gained a little over the year. I still want to lose weight but won’t work on that before I have a diagnosis.

I have given up on the idea of running a half marathon completely (at least for now and for next year). Maybe I will someday but it’s not a priority.

For next year I have different goals. What they are? Well you have to wait till the end of this year before I reveal them (still working/thinking about them).

I have my Christmas dinner planned this weekend and made a shopping list when to buy what. Also put up the Christmas tree. We have a fake one in the addict but I find it too big now. We bought a real one at one of the stores of my company. Photo will follow later this month.

Photo a day challenge:

December 4: Tiny.
Tiny apples in my Beebox this week.

December 5: In my cupboard
You have seen this before but I used it for the challenge because the colors make me happy and it’s a waiste to put it in my cupboard.

December 6: Shadow
Shadow or reflection? Thought it is too pretty not to share, the mill in my village.

December 7: 6 O’Clock
6 PM Friday: buying a Christmas tree.

December 8: I shop here.
I don’t like shopping very much, I buy most things online. But 2 or 3 times a year I go to this shop to buy myself something pretty that has won the title “best shop in the Netherlands 2013″. The service is great and the clothes are beautiful. I did buy something and again you’ll have to wait till later this month.

December 9: This is the weather today.
Was home before dark and went immediately for a walk with Bella and was able to shoot the beautiful sky.

December 10: R is for … R. who loves to Race on his Red Ducati that he Restored himself.

Meals:

Saturday December 7

I used the rammenas for a salad with mushrooms, nuts and goat cheese with honey. I wasn’t impressed with the rammenas, it tastes like radish which I’m not a huge fan of either.

Sunday December 8

Cheese soufflé with a salad of purslane and cherry tomatoes with a mustard dressing.

Monday December 9

Beet salad with goat cheese.

Tuesday December 10

Mashed potatoes with herb cream cheese, chicory, ham and cheese out of the oven.

Wednesday January 2, 2013: Happy New Year!

Posted on

Daily stuff:

First: I wish you all a happy New Year and hope it will be a fantastic year for you.

The last days of 2012 were very relaxing for us. Last Friday we had our friends over for our first evening to end the year together. We had lots of fun and it was a great success.

The food:

The guys giving R. Ipad lessons (they both already had one):

The girls:

We spend New Year’s Eve at home as we have been doing the last couple of years. Especially I don’t care about New Year’s Eve and I don’t want to go anywhere that night. I’m always in anticipation for the new year to start. New Year’s Day we did the traditional visits to both our Moms. R. had to go back to work today but I had another day of vacation. For me normal life starts again tomorrow.

2013

It’s time to reveal my plans: a new year has started and this year is special to me. In May I’m hoping to reach the age of 45 and in March it’s 20 years ago R. and I met. Because it’s a special year to me, I started thinking about what I want to accomplish this year a couple of weeks ago. I thought and thought about it over and over again till I was convinced I can do this and I want to do this.

I have 2 big goals this year:

1. Reach my goal weight
2. Run a half marathon

Goal weight:

For years and years I’ve been struggling with my weight. I lose some, I gain some which kept me at the same weight for a couple of years (except last year where I gained weight). Nothing wrong with that, except that it isn’t a healthy weight. I have thought about how I was going to reach it and after lots of thinking and testing I have decided to go back to Weight Watchers. WW has been the only program in the past that has really worked for me and helped me reach my goal weight 13 years ago. Since then I’ve been struggling with my highest weight 10 years ago in 2003. A decade!

This time I’m not going to give up, I won’t stop till I reached a weight that’s healthy for me and that I can be happy with. I don’t have a specific date in mind but December 31 will be great (if not I keep on going in 2014). I have to lose 9 kg (19.8 lbs).

Half marathon

After two attempts at running a half, I still can’t get it out of my head. Not finishing has been one of the biggest failures to me and I can’t stand that, neither can I let it go. So I’m trying again this year. I have a race in mind in October and I have made a training schedule that will prepare me for that.

But, one of my biggest “problems” is race day nerves. I have messed up a few races because I was nervous.  I have planned a few races the next months to see how it goes, if I’m still that nervous I might not run that half in a race but on my own.

I don’t care if I run it in a race or on my own or that I run in October or maybe even on December 31: I shall run this distance in 2013!

I don’t have to prove to myself that I can run a half in a race but I have to prove to myself that I can run  it. That’s what matters most to me.

Workouts:

What better way to start a new year and my plans for 2013 with a run on the first day of the year. When I got up it was raining cats and dogs but I had my mind set on a run and after about 30 minutes I went. It wasn’t that bad at all although I had to take more walk breaks towards the end of run (probably because of the wine on New Year’s Eve). Because it was early there was hardly any traffic and no one outside for a walk or run except for this one girl that I saw. Just like me she was running: girl power!

Stats:
Run-walk ratio: 7-7-14, 2 minutes walking inbetween (28 minutes running, 6 minutes walking)
Weather: rain, bit windy, 5C (41 degrees)
Distance: 4.8 K / 3 miles
Time: 00:33:46
Last song on Ipod before finish: Spandau Ballet – Lifeline.

Meals:

Now that I have started Weight Watchers I will make pics of my meals for as far as that’s possible (not going to take photos when I have a work lunch for example).

Wednesday:

Breakfast (7 points): 2 slices of bread with cheese and marmalade and an orange.

Lunch (8 points): 2 slices of bread with egg/tomato/cottage cheese.

Dinner (7 points): Pork meat, potatoes, green beans.
