Friday February 21, 2014: Weekend started a day early

Posted on

It’s a vacation week here in Holland and my manager is on vacation. I had pretty catched up on my work yesterday and decided to take a vacation day today. I went to see my Mom this morning. Bella didn’t want to come home with me, she wanted to stay with my Mom whom she adores. It took some serious talking to get her in the car.

Now I’m watching the team pursuit speed skating. We have had the most successful Olympic games ever. We have 22 medals so far which has never happened before and I expect we will at least add 2 more tomorrow in the final for the team pursuit for both the women and the men.

Sunday Bella and I are going for another organized walk, this time we will do 12K (about 7 miles). The walk is tomorrow and Sunday and since the weather forecast for Sunday is better we are going on Sunday.

Hope you all have a nice weekend.

Beebox content week 8:

Eggs, Jerusalem artichokes, apple juice, apples, red beets, flower sprout, mushrooms, parsnip, pears, beef meat, onions, salad, smoked mackerel and celery.

Flower sprout, ever heard of it? (it’s in the top right of the box). I didn’t and looked it up on the internet. It is a new vegetable something between kale and Brussels sprouts, I’m curious if it will taste good.

Workouts:

Wednesday: P90X Plus – Interval Plus
Nice workout with short interval workouts, most exercises were 20 seconds slow, 20 seconds moderate and 20 seconds high speed. No weights necessary. I really like this workout.
Total time: 30 minutes.

Thursday: Turbofire
HITT 15: 15 minutes of high intensity training, I love this workout because it’s only 15 minutes. After this I did the 10 minute Stretch which I love too. I don’t stretch enough, just don’t take the time for it but when I do it feels so good.
Total time: 28 minutes.

365 Days In Nature:

February 14: These deers are back in a meadow in the middle of my town. You are allowed to feed them if you want and they are not shy at all.

February 15: Taken at today’s walk.

February 16: One more of Saturday’s walk.

February 17: Beautiful day, it felt a little like Spring. So glad we have longer daylight already now.

February 18.

February 19: No time today to take a photo, this one is from last Sunday where Bella is playing with a stick.

February 20.

February 21: Beautiful afternoon, lots of seagulls in the air.

Friday February 7, 2014: Last “free” weekend

Posted on

I’m joking that it’s my last “free” weekend but it’s the last weekend that there isn’t an organized walk. As of next week there’s an organized walk every week till the beginning of July and if there isn’t one close I will do a part of a trail. There’s only 1 weekend in these months that I haven’t planned anything. It is my intention to do this every week but it depends on the weather. If it’s raining cats and dogs I won’t go, it has to be fun.

I also planned some races. I have signed up for 1 so far. Till June I will only do 5K’s, during Summer it’s my plan to train for 10K’s and do some 10K’s in September/October.

I look forward to hopefully lots of beautiful walks in the next months and some good 5K’s.

Have a good weekend.

Beebox content week 6:

Eggs, Jerusalem artichoke, apple juice, apples, mushrooms, pastrami, pears, leek, red beets, arugula, brasing steak, onion, carrots, beer, sauerkraut, bok choi.

Workouts:

Wednesday: Turbofire

I had a 30 minute workout and a 10 minute stretch scheduled. But when I started the Fire workout I just wasn’t into it. I ended up doing a little over 10 minute and then moved on to the stretch.
Total time: 24 minutes.

Thursday: The Firm Express

Nice short cardio and strength workout.
Total time: 21 minutes.

Friday: Jillian Michaels Banish Fat Boost Metabolism

This workout is without weights, all you use is your own body. It’s more cardio then strength although there are some strength exercises in it. Besides a warm up and cool down it has 7 circuits of about 6 minutes each. You can do them all or just some. Today I did 4 circuits, the warm up and the cool down.
Total time: 37 minutes.

365 Days In Nature:

February 1: Woohoo more signs of Spring.

February 2: If you ask me, we have a little bit too much gooses, seaguls and swans at the moment. Think it’s because the winter has been so mild so far.

February 3: Sunset after a beautiful sunny day. This was chosen as the header of the day (every day they pick the best photo of the day before as the header for the group).

February 4: Taken last weekend.

February 5.

February 6: From last weekend.

February 7: Last one from last weekend. Glad it’s weekend again and I can take new photo’s. Can’t wait for longer daylight and Spring, that will give so much more photo opportunities.

Friday November 29, 2013: Can you believe it’s almost December?

Posted on

I can’t believe we are only 4 weeks away from 2014. This year definitely haven’t been my best year. I haven’t reached my goals and that’s why I want to try to reach at least 1 new goal before the end of this year: run a 5K without walk breaks.

I’m letting go of speed at this moment, first I want to run without stopping. I already have some plans for 2014 and let me just say: there’s plenty of time to work on speed next year.

I have some other plans for 2014 that I will reveal at the end of this year. Losing weight is definitely one of them but right now I don’t want to change anything in the way I eat till my appointment in the hospital. But I’m definitely not happy with my body right now.

I have a lot of workout DVD’s, in fact I can do a different workout every time for at least a year but there was still 1 program on my wish list: Focus T25. This week I could buy this on a Dutch site together wit Brazil Butt Lift and Hip Hop Abs for only 18 Euro’s (around 19 USD). I received it today, they are copies (I knew that when I bought it) but it’s working on my DVD player and the quality is fine. For now I’m done with the workouts I want to buy. As R. said this evening: now use them more!

Weekend plans: if it’s dry tomorrow morning (and it looks that way) Bella and I are doing an organized 10K walk again.

Beebox content week 48:

Pears, mozzarella cheese, celeriac, pesto, red onion, eggs, minced meat, Romanesco, apple juice, apples, green pepper, soester tubers, tomatoes, vegetables for soup.

The soester tubers is something I never heard before. They are grown in a village close to where I live and no where else. Talk about regional products: how cool is that. I have no idea what it is, how it tastes but there was a recipe on the website so I’ll try that. I never had Romanesco (green cauliflower) before either. It’s going to be an interesting week again.

Workouts:

Wednesday: Turbofire

HITT 20 workout and 15 minutes of strength.
Total time 35 minutes.

Tuesday November 5, 2013: Health update

Posted on

I have talked a few times about my bowel problems. I’ve been having this since July 2010. I went to see the doctor in September 2010 about it, they ran some tests but couldn’t find anything. I was sent home with “it’s probably IBS, try to live with it”. I did but nothing I did worked. There have been periods where I didn’t have (many) symptoms.

And suddenly I had enough of it. I don’t want to live the rest of my life like this (I’m not going to tell you the nasty details but I spent a lot of time in the bathroom). I am slowly gaining weight even in periods when I eat very healthy and exercise. If I do that I normally should lose weight. My stomach is huge, especially at the end of the day. Besides my bowel problems I’m feeling good, I don’t have other health problems.

I decided that I was going to see my doctor again and this time I wouldn’t go home till I have a real diagnosis and help to deal with it. Friday was my appointment and she took me serious. They are going to run some tests. I let them take blood and I had to bring something (you probably know what) in on Monday. They will test on parasites/bacteriums, if my thyroid works normal and if I might have gluten intolerance. The first 2 things can be treated with medication but if I have a gluten intolerance it will mean I have to change my way of eating. I have symptoms that both can point at thyroid problems or gluten intolerance. At this point I’m not jumping into conclusions and wait for the results at my next appointment with my doctor on November 13th.

Beebox content week 45:

Carrots, beets, apple juice, ciabatta bread, white grapes, apples, rocket salad, mushroom mix, onions, parsley, celeriac, pumpkin.

Workouts:

Sunday: Running

I took a few steps back in my training schedule and the result was that I ran all 3 scheduled runs last week. Sunday was the third run of the week. The weather was good, although a bit windy. This run went great, same as the other 2 last week. So … so far so good when it comes to get back to regular running. Now I have to stick with it.

Stats:
Distance: 3.5 K / 2.1 miles
Time: 00:25:26
Running: 1-2-4-4-5 minutes.
Paces: 6:05 – 6:06 – 6:20 – 6:25 – 6:19
Weather: dry, bit windy, 9C (48 degrees)
Last song on Ipod before finish: Irene Cara – Fame.

Tuesday: Stretching

Turbofire Stretch, 40 minutes.
A good and nice long stretch workout. I definitely don’t do this often enough. At the beginning I was very stiff but at the end I could feel that my muscles were more flexible. Great workout.

Tuesday: The Firm

Total Body Toner, 34 minutes.
Great total body workout with weights.

Meals:

Saturday November 2

We went out for dinner to celebrate our anniversary on October 29th. We went to the restaurant in our village where we have been before. The one that’s in the mill. For starters I had risotto with mushrooms and cheese -> delicious!

Main was pork tenderloin with bacon and onions served with fries and overcooked broccoli (which R. likes but I don’t).

Dessert crème brulée with whipped cream. Normally it is served with some ice cream too but I don’t like ice cream that much and asked if they could serve without it.

Sunday November 3

Third time I used pumpkin. The first 2 dishes with pumpkin failed but this time it was perfect. I made a Thai pumpkin soup that was tasty and spicy. The recipe was from one of my cooking magazines and definitely a keeper.

Monday November 4

Since I never cook with beets (and my recipe database is far from complete)  I searched for a recipe on the internet and found a dish that included mashed potatoes, beets, bacon, onion and apple. Very tasty dish.

Tuesday November 5

I made a soup of the celeriac and added the mushrooms from the Beebox and some bacon. I liked it a lot, R. not so much.

Tuesday October 8, 2013: No more races!

Posted on

About something that seems to be my pain in the you know what: running.

I had a race planned in 3 weeks but I got race nerves. Same thing happened when I signed up for a race in August and September: I got the nerves and didn’t go. Where some people train even more when that happens, I chicken out and skip runs.

I have thought a lot about this and decided I won’t be doing races this year. I want to be confident about my running and right now I’m not. I run for me, not for a race. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone, I do this to myself and why? I don’t know. To be honest I don’t really like races all that much, never have. I have always enjoyed the training for a race more. But got it in my head that when you run, you run races. Kind of stupid if you think about it, a race doesn’t define me as a runner.

So to make a long story short: I am just going to run and if I skip a run, I’ll do it next time. If a training doesn’t go as expected, I’ll do it again next run. No races, no pressure. And hopefully it makes me a stronger more confident runner who does maybe a race next year.

Right now I don’t know if I’ll ever race again. Maybe I do, maybe not. I am enjoying the long walks with Bella much more at the moment. We’ll see what happens. For now it’s just running and enjoy it because I got my joy in running back.

Workouts:

Monday: Turbofire

Turbofire HITT 30, 30 minutes
HITT workout of 5 x 2 drills of about 1 minute. I like HITT workouts, they are short but intense with enough time to recover between the drills. Good workout!

Tuesday: Running

Because of my decision and the fact that I have skipped some trainings I took a step back in the training schedule and start again in week 6 of the 10 week program. This was a good run, I felt good and it all went smoothly. Before I went I had decided to try run the intervals at a pace of 6:40 which I did, even faster than that.

Stats:
Distance: 4.2 K / 2.6 miles
Time: 00:30:32
Running: 2-3-5-5-5 minutes.
Paces: 6:36 – 6:26 – 6:16 – 6:17 – 6:25
Weather: dry, not much wind, 9C (48 degrees)
Last song on Ipod before finish: Wet Wet Wet – Sweet Surrender

Meals:

Saturday October 5

I used the celeriac and leek from the Beebox and made a soup of it. I only added some garlic and chicken consommé. This was a recipe that came with the Beebox and although I had my doubts, it turned out to be delicious. I had some bread with it.

Sunday October 6

I used the carrotparsley, pumpkin and purple potatoes to make a stew. After I had the meat on for two hours I added the vegetables for the last minutes. That’s where it went wrong: I turned the gas a bit higher, got lost in the book I’m reading and next thing was that I smelled something was burned. It was my dish. I did eat some of it but it wasn’t that good, the meat was burned and the vegetables overcooked. This hardly ever happens to me but due to my book I forgot about it. Stupid because it smelled promising before it burned.

Monday October 7

Minced meat, purple potatoes (not special, taste the same as normal potatoes), cauliflower from the Beebox with some Hollandaise sauce.

Tuesday  October 8

Made an oven dish of minced meat, red cabbage and mashed potatoes but the photo wasn’t good.

Tuesday September 3, 2013: Time for action

Posted on

Vacation is over, first workdays behind me and time for action. I’m out of shape and I’ve gained 4 kg / 8.8 lbs since my lowest weight at the beginning of this year.

If I continue like this I will even gain more. I have been careless about my health the past months. Time for action!

First I’m not going on a diet, been there, done that and never again. My action plan has 3 steps I’m going to focus on till Christmas. I am not setting a goal for a number on the scale, I need to lose weight and how fast I lose it, even how much, isn’t important. A healthy body is what I’m after.

The steps:

  • Exercise
I will plan 6 days a week but will listen to my body. If I need an extra day of rest, I’ll take it.
My rest day will be Sunday.
  • Walk 30 minutes or more every day with Bella.
  • Eat healthy
    - More fruits and vegetables, especially at the weekend. I have something that might help with that but save that for the next post because then I can show you what it is.

    - No alcohol! I’m used to drinking a glass or 2 of wine every day, especially during vacation. Going to stop doing that and only drink 1 or 2 glasses on Saturday night or special occasions.

    - No fast food. The past months we got fast food every Friday night. Besides that it’s high in fat, my body doesn’t react very well to it either.

That’s it in a nutshell. Should be totally doable.

I have told you a couple of times about my IBS problems. I haven’t talked about it much the past months but it was still there. I did some research on the internet about trigger foods and tried some suggestions. I stopped using diary and whole grain bread a couple of weeks ago and I can tell you that my problems are as good as gone. When I eat food that’s high in fat, I pay for that immediately, that’s also one of the reasons I don’t want to eat that anymore.

I replaced the diary with soybean products and use almond milk in my coffee. The whole grain bread is replace by spelt bread.

Workouts:

Running Monday

First run in weeks at around 5.30 am and although I kind of expected it, I was disappointed that it was dark. I had put out my yellow safety vest the night before but still, it’s too soon to already run in the dark in the mornings. I didn’t bring a light but will next run this week. Now it’s about 7 months running in the dark on weekdays: sigh!

The run itself went so much better than last week. I did the 8-10-8 minutes training again and this time I could run them all without walking. I did still have the 2 minute walk break in between. Very pleased with this run.

Stats:
Distance: 4.4 K / 2.7 miles
Time: 00:31:26
Running: 8-10-8 minutes.
Paces: 6:46 – 6:40 – 6:49
Weather: dry, hardly any wind, 14C (57 degrees)
Last song on Ipod before finish: The Script – Breakeven

Cardio Tuesday

Turbofire, Fire 30 + Abs 10, 41 minutes.
Finished both workouts. The abs workout was only 10 minutes but hard. Think I will feel that tomorrow. Good workout!

Meals:

Sunday September 1

I made a vegetarian pasta dish from a recipes out of one of my cooking magazines. Whole wheat pasta with eggplant, tomatoes and feta cheese. Very tasteful.

Monday September 2

I grilled some left-over meat from a bbq party that I still had in the freezer, baked potatoes and made a recipe from Bill Granger: green beans with garlic and bacon. This was very good and a nice variation for the regular green beans.

Tuesday September 3

Recipe from the book Jamie’s 15 minute meals: beef chimchurri with baked potatoes and salad. The original recipe said cooked potatoes but the ones I bought were rotten and I couldn’t use them.

Sunday August 11, 2013: Vacation

Posted on

My vacation started Thursday afternoon when I got home a 3 pm. R. had to work a half day on Friday but then his vacation started too. We are not going away this year. Our house needs to be painted on the outside and R. wants to try to get that done in 2 weeks. In the 3rd week we will be going on a few day trips. My plan is to do 1 or 2 long trail walks a week if the weather is cooperating (no rain and not too hot).

We started our vacation Friday night with a dinner in our town after which we went to have coffee at our friends house. They came back from vacation in France and we wanted to hear their vacation stories. It was a very pleasant evening.

Of course Bella went to dinner with us too. During our vacation we take her with us almost everywhere we will go. When we work she is already alone enough so we don’t want her to be alone during vacation days.

Workouts:

Cardio Wednesday

Turbofire HITT 25, 24 minutes.
HITT workout. I like HITT workouts, they are short, you have enough recovery time between the exercises and it doesn’t get boring because it’s short.

Running Saturday

This was a toughie: I hadn’t run in 10 days and I had a couple of glasses of wine the night before. My only goal was to do the running intervals (8 – 10 – 8) without walking, pace didn’t matter. And I did it! Now all I have to do is go back to regular running 3 days a week and I’ll be fine.

Stats:
Distance: 4.3 K / 2.6 miles
Time: 00:31:13
Running: 8-10-8 minutes.
Paces: 6:54 – 6:56 – 6:56
Weather: dry, cloudy, not much  wind, 16C (60 degrees)
Last song on Ipod before finish: Neil Diamond – Cracklin’ Rosie

Photo a day August

August 7: Sign
I was supposed to take a photo of a sign. But I had to shorten our daily walk because Bella thought a pond filled with duckweed was a road and she thought she could chase the duck. Instead she got a wet suit and I had to go home to shower her. There should have been a sign “watch out dogs, this is a pond, not a road”. Instead I give you wet Bella …

August 8: Peek-a-boo
I took this photo of Bella when she didn’t know I was watching her.

August 9: 2 o’clock
At 2 o’clock I was cross stitching in the garden with a cup of tea and the radio on.

August 10: Beverage
After downloading I saw the photo was bad but this is espresso with almond milk, my favorite beverage at the moment.

August 11: I love doing this
I love walking more and more and especially longer walks like today. I got up a 7.30 am and Bella and I were on the road around 8 am. We walked almost 8K (5 miles) in 1 hour and 30 minutes. Because it’s Sunday and early there was hardly traffic on the roads and I didn’t see many people. A few early birds on a bike but Bella and I had the roads mostly to ourselves. In this busy world we are living in, it’s a great feeling that you can do quiet and peaceful walks.

Meals:

Friday August 9
Dinner in town: pork tenderloin with pepper sauce served with green beans, rocket salad and French fries. Dessert was a hot chocolate cake with ice cream and whipped cream.

Sunday April 14, 2013: I’m still here

Posted on

Lori asked if I got a nice raise with all the extra activities I’m doing at work right now. The answer is no. First my salary is at the top of the salary scale I’m in so I haven’t got a big raise in years. Besides that there is a salary stop in our company. Our country is in a recession and construction and DIY are the businesses that are hit the hardest. There are already some people that have lost their job at our company and I’m just happy to have a job. Besides that I have no complains about my salary, it’s good.

I started working for the manager Communication last Wednesday and Thursday he brought me flowers because he is so happy I am going to help him out. These little things make your day.

You know I have a cook book addiction. My favorites are Jamie Oliver, Tana Ramsey (yes the wife of), Ainsley Harriott, Annabel Langbein, Bill Granger and Nigella Lawson.

We have a TV show called College Tour. Every week they have a different guest and the audience exists of students that can ask questions. Last Friday Nigella was the guest.

I love Nigella because she’s a lot like me: she likes to cook but she gains weight easily too. She recently lost weight and they asked how she did it because she loves to cook and eat and her recipes aren’t diet proof. She lost a little weight by eating a little bit less but overall she hasn’t lost that much weight she said. She exercised a lot and her body got stronger and more toned so it looked she lost a lot. This sounded like music to my ears because it’s my way to lose weight right now too.

She also said that being a good cook doesn’t make you a better person. Her experience is that some people think they do and that being a good cook defines you. Cooking is for pleasure and it’s allright if something doesn’t taste as good as you expect, it happens to her too.

Overall I loved the show because I learned about her childhood, things I didn’t know and how she became a writer of cook books.

Workouts:

Cardio Monday

A Turbofire workout: Fire 45. Three rounds of cardio/boxing/plyometric exercises of which I skipped the last one and 3 HITT sessions inbetween. Total time: 33 minutes.

Long run Sunday

Long run is a big word for my run today. My cold did last longer than I expected. I tried running twice last week but had to stop after 5 minutes because I had no lung capacity. I decided to try again today and take it really slow. Goal was to run 5K and finish, time didn’t matter. I took a walk break after 2K and at 3 and 4K. It was hard but I also knew after I finished that I’m almost recovered from my cold.

Positive note: I wear my Summer running outfit for the first time this year!

Stats:
Distance: 5 K / 3.1 miles
Time: 00:36:13

Speed per km: 8.28 km/hour (5.1 miles/hour)

Time per km: 07:15
Weather: drizzling rain, cloudy, little bit of wind, 13C (55 degrees)

Last song on Ipod before finish: Lady Gaga – Born this way

Meals:

Sunday

New recipe from a Jamie Oliver book: lamb chops with honey and balsamico and a lasagnette with green asparagus and cherry tomatoes. Very tasty, a keeper.

I have been cooking some new recipes the rest of the week but the photo’s didn’t turn out very well.

Yesterday I baked “boterkoek”, the main ingredient is butter. It’s not diet proof or very healthy and I don’t make it very often but it’s so delicious. Both R. and I love it.

Tuesday January 29, 2013: Hooray for the King

Posted on

Monday afternoon it was all over the news: our queen would give a TV speech at 7 pm. This could mean only one thing and that she would step down as our queen. Of course we were in front of the TV and indeed she announced that she is going to retire. This means we will get a king: Willem Alexander and a queen: Maxima. The ceremony will take place on April 30 which already is a National holiday. On the same date 32 years ago Beatrix became our queen. I expect that this will be celebrated big in our country.

I was supposed to go out to dinner tonight with our management team. One of the managers has got a new function in our company and we had a “goodbye” dinner planned. But he was sick yesterday and today and my own manager was sick yesterday and not completely fit today. So we cancelled it and will do it another time.

Workouts:

Yesterday morning I did a run. Some parts of the bike path were a bit slippery because it was frozen but it didn’t really slow me down. This was a good run, nothing to complain about, everything went well.

Stats:
Run-walk ratio: 5-7-7-5 minutes, 2 minutes walking inbetween (24 minutes running, 8 minutes walking)

Weather: dry, windy, 3C (37 degrees)

Distance: 4.4 K / 2.7 miles

Time: 00:31:29

Last song on Ipod before finish: James Taylor – You’ve got a friend

This morning I did a Turbofire workout. Turbofire is a kind of body combat workout and I like it a lot although it’s sometimes hard to keep up with all the moves. But I’m doing the best I can.

Total time: 44 minutes.

Outfits:

Weight Watchers review:

The program doesn’t feel like a diet. I eat much better than I have the past 2 years. I always said I already ate healthy but now it turns out I ate too much at meals, had too many snacks and alcohol and didn’t have much variation with my breakfast and lunches. Since I started WW and apparently eat more healthy my IBS problems are completely gone. I’m eating WW recipes for 2 more weeks, after that I’m going to add recipes from my cook books again but still most of the meals will be WW recipes, especially breakfast and lunch.

Weight progress:

Weight January 1: 82 kg / 180.7 lbs

Weight January 31: 79.2 kg / 174.6 lbs

Weight loss this month: -2.8 kg / 6.1 lbs

As a slow loser when it comes to weight, this is huge for me and I’m very happy with the result.

Daily stuff:
Last week I heard that Bruce Springsteen was coming back to Hollandnext Summer for a concert and of course we want to go. Saturday ticket sale started at 10 am and I was ready at 9.55 am. At 10.01 am I had tickets for us. Later that day I read on FB that a lot of people had trouble buying tickets and had to wait for hours to be able to buy them. I considered myself lucky that I got them so fast. The concert is in a park on June 22nd next year.

This might be fun to watch for you: if you ever wonder where I live and how my village looks like, watch the video on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTGLNiXbIdE

Yesterday a real life soap about a few people that live in my village started on Dutch television. I have seen some of the people sometimes but I don’t know them because I don’t participate active in the community. I wasn’t very impressed with the program either but R. likes it. The comment is in Dutch of course but it gives a view shots of where I live. The total video is only 52 seconds so it doesn’t take much of your time to watch it.

Workouts:

That akward moment when you are only a few minutes in your run and you feel like you have to go the bathroom. At first you keep on going and hope it will go away. But a few minutes later you know you have to get home asap if you don’t want to get in bigger trouble. This happened to me last Wednesday at my morning run.
With all my stomach problems, this was the first time I had to stop a run and go home because I had to go to the bathroom and I didn’t like it at all. Hopefully it won’t happen again.

This morning I did a Turbofire workout: HITT 25. I like the HITT workouts, they are intense but short. I had planned to do a 30 minute sculpt session after this but I overslept and didn’t have time to do it.
Total time: 25 minutes.

Outfits:

Today’s outfit

Dinner:

Monday dinner

Endive with mashed potatoes, bacon, onion, herb cheese and walnuts.

Tuesday dinner

A recipe I saw on a cooking show on the Dutch cooking channel: 24 Kitchen. Chicken with garlic, onion, spices, yogurt and herbs out of the oven, baked potatoes and mashed green peas with mint. I loved it, R. wasn’t that enthousiastic.

TV shows I watched last week

True Blood, The Walking Dead, The Kennedy’s, Mad Men, Private Practice, Downton Abbey, Once upon a time, Revenge, Rookie Blue, Game of Thrones.

Season 3 of Downton Abbey finally started here and I love this show. It’s easy going and I love the English aristocrat environment.

Movies I’ve seen last week

The Hangover part II

I liked part 1 better because of the surprise element but still this was a nice movie to watch on a relaxing Friday night.

Sint

A Dutch horror movie. We don’t have Santa Clause, we have Sinterklaas on December 5th. It’s the same principle: giving gifts. This movie was about bad Sinterklaas. This one was murdered in the 14th century and every December 5th when it is full moon his ghost came back to kill as many people as possible. It was scary sometimes and an okay movie, especially for a Dutch movie.
